Experience
Here are a few examples of my experience as an emerging ASL–English interpreter. These opportunities reflect my continued growth through real-world exposure, observation, and hands-on practice in a variety of settings.
This experience involved interpreting a live musical performance, where I focused on timing, rhythm, and matching the tone of the show. It helped me develop skills in conveying emotion, music, and dialogue in a visually clear and engaging way. Overall practicing the way of showing not telling the concept of the musical.
This experience gave me exposure to a professional conference setting focused on accessibility. I was able to observe interpreting in fast-paced environments and use Protactile to support communication. It strengthened my understanding of teamwork, adaptability, and inclusive practices.
At this community event, I volunteered to interpret conversations between Deaf and hearing attendees, including general questions, directions, and event-related interactions. This setting required flexibility and quick adjustments in a fast-paced, informal environment, helping me build confidence and adaptability.
